Board hears plea for volunteers as Public Works says crew is stretched thin

The Parks & Recreation Board on June 22 heard from Public Works that staff capacity is limited and volunteers are needed to help with park clean-ups and field maintenance.
"Public Works is looking for some help with park clean-ups," Public Works staff member Mr. Hoiser told the board, noting the township's small crew struggles to "get to everything in the park." Bob Van Bramer, who said he is head of the Little League, said the league "does currently attempt to do that with little response," and added the league is fundraising to buy a tractor to better drag fields next season.
Board members discussed the difficulty of recruiting volunteers. Thomas C. Troutman drew on his experience with scouts to suggest parent participation has declined, and urged printed outreach and scheduled volunteer events to build turnout.
The board asked Mr. Van Bramer to prepare, for the next meeting, a list of what the Little League currently does to maintain Gerald Richards Park and what additional help they could provide. The request is intended to clarify responsibilities between volunteer groups and Public Works before the next season.
