Sherwood SD pilots districtwide tabletop safety drills with SPD partnership

Brady Struts, who led the tabletop safety initiative, told the board the district ran scenario‑based tabletop exercises at each school this year in partnership with Sergeant Aisla from SPD to practice lockdowns, evacuations and coordination with first responders. The exercises were designed to give staff realistic decision points and to surface operational challenges. “We wanted to give folks a chance to practice,” he said, adding the exercises allowed teams to reflect and identify areas for improvement.
Sergeant Aisla described the model as a fiscally responsible training method that improves cross‑agency communication and cited learnings including HVAC and logistic issues uncovered during exercises. Board members praised the approach and discussed expanding the training next year and sharing the approach at a regional safety summit.
