Sherwood Charter principal asks board for five-year renewal; board authorizes negotiations

Joy Raboli, principal of Sherwood Charter School, asked the Sherwood SD 88J board to continue the districts nearly 20-year partnership with a five-year renewal. "I request continuation of this partnership with a 5 year renewal," Raboli said, describing the charter as a public K-8 school that offers a small-school environment, hands-on learning and a HEART culture (Honor, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, Teamwork).
Raboli told the board the school started in 2005 with 30 students and has grown to 216 students and a middle school program. She highlighted the schools academics, uniform policy with a uniform closet to remove cost barriers, frequent field trips and strong transitions to high school: about half "go on to the high school," she said, while others enroll in nearby districts. After discussion the board moved to "approve the authorization of the board leadership to negotiate an agreement with Sherwood Charter School," a motion that passed unanimously, 5-0. The board will negotiate terms of a renewal agreement and return to the board with a proposed contract for final action.
