Amy Gleason, introduced onstage, described a product-oriented approach to health technology: "We didn't start by asking what should we build. We started by asking what problem are we trying to solve and who are we trying to solve it for. That is product thinking." She announced the creation of a new office at CMS, the Office of Health Technology and Products (OHTP), and said she is serving as deputy administrator and chief product officer for the group.
Gleason emphasized adoption and usability as Year 2 priorities: making record-sharing routine for patients and clinicians and supporting providers’ workflow changes. She used a family example—her daughter Morgan—who successfully shared a QR code with NIH, to illustrate how adoption shortens visits and focuses clinicians on treatment decisions rather than reconstructing histories. Gleason urged attendees to join and support the new office’s work to convert interoperability plumbing into usable products for patients and clinicians.
She also reiterated a hiring call for people who want government roles focused on product delivery and urged attendees to help spread awareness of the new capabilities so they become standard practice.
