ONC and CMS mark one-year gains: Medicare app library, national provider directory, and production data flows

ONC and CMS officials celebrated the Health Tech Ecosystem’s first year, saying CMS delivered a Medicare app library and national provider directory and that FHIR APIs and USCDI v3 are the operational floor for data exchange.
Agency leaders said the first-year focus was building interoperable infrastructure and that production systems are now live. Chris Klomp outlined specific CMS outputs: "CMS delivered the Medicare app library. It delivered national provider directory. It delivered an access model for reimbursement for these novel technologies," and said Medicare claims and benefit data are "in production, sharing live with patients and providers across CMS-aligned networks."
ONC’s national coordinator Tom Keene said the federal role of convening enabled these results and pledged alignment of certification, information-blocking guidance, and TEFCA governance with what the ecosystem demonstrates in practice. Keene listed operational building blocks—FHIR APIs, USCDI v3, identity standards and mandatory query response for participating networks—and argued adoption requires coordinated policy and tooling.
Both agencies emphasized the next phase is adoption at provider scale: making it routine for clinicians to accept patient-shared records and for networks to respond to patient queries. Officials repeatedly called on providers to update workflows and for ecosystem partners to continue building consumer-facing tools.
