Board amends parks code to allow beer and wine at aquatic center for special events

The board approved an amendment to Henry County code to add the aquatic center rooftop terrace to the list of parks where beer and wine may be served for special events.
Parks staff explained the change is intended for controlled, permitted events such as wedding receptions. "This will add the aquatic center to that listing for the rooftop terrace," the presentation said. Staff emphasized the policy limits service to beer and wine only and requires event permits and officer presence.
Several commissioners asked whether pools would be open during such events and whether separate entries would limit access between the water park and the aquatic center. Parks staff said the aquatic center and water park have separate entries and that event access can be controlled by wristbands and perimeter controls.
Commissioner concern about children and alcohol was expressed during the discussion. After questions and clarifications, a motion to approve the ordinance amendment passed by voice vote.
