Commissioners approve four-year lease-to-purchase for 10 county desktop computers

County staff told commissioners the county is replacing aging desktop machines that generally have 8 GB of RAM and need 16 GB to meet modern requirements. The proposed procurement is a four-year lease-to-purchase for 10 desktops that includes keyboards and mice and other peripherals.
Finance discussion favored leasing for cash-flow reasons: at the end of the four-year lease the machines can be purchased for $1, or redistributed to departments if still serviceable. The court moved, seconded and approved the lease by voice vote.
Staff said replaced equipment in good condition is typically donated to volunteer departments or nonprofits; otherwise hard drives are destroyed before disposal.
