The St. Louis Preservation Board on Tuesday granted preliminary approval to a proposed six-story apartment building at the corner of Shoto and Missouri in Lafayette Square.
Bob (Cultural Resources Office staff) presented renderings and described the project as "a good design" that is "compatible with the streetscape," noting the proposed mix of stone, brick and metal accents and the building's compatibility with recently constructed large-scale apartments nearby. Staff recommended the board grant preliminary approval and flagged coordination with cultural-resources staff on materials as the next step.
Commissioner Ruth Kenoy moved to accept the project design with coordination with cultural-resources staff; Anthony Robinson seconded. There were no substantive questions from commissioners during the presentation. After a roll call, the board carried the motion on staff's recommendation. Bob said staff would follow up with the applicant to discuss materials and next steps.
The board's approval was a preliminary design determination. Further review and any required permits will occur as the applicant completes design details and submits final materials.
