Council adopts Colorado'mandated wildfire resiliency code; staff outline impacts for new construction

Staff and the fire chief stressed that the code mostly affects new construction and major alterations; existing homes are not retroactively subject to the full standard unless they exceed the defined repair/alteration thresholds. Council discussed whether insurance reductions would follow; staff said insurance decisions remain with companies and neighborhood-level mitigation can be affected if neighbors do not similarly adapt properties. Council adopted the ordinance authorizing the local adoption of the State Wildfire Resiliency Code; the motion passed unanimously.
