At the July 27 meeting, planning staff said Greg Hayes, previously the assistant town planner, moved to an IT specialist position and will continue to attend meetings to assist with recordings.
Staff also announced the town posted two building inspector positions, with the posting open through Sept. 8. “We're hiring 2 building inspectors,” staff said, adding the pay is competitive and that hiring will allow more permits and inspections to be processed in-house rather than routing tasks to Carteret County. Board members congratulated Hayes on the move.
Staff said the additional inspectors would provide a 'quadruple set of eyes' for enforcement and review and help reduce the need for residents and contractors to travel outside town for permitting services. No formal vote was required; staff will report back as hiring progresses.
