Resident asks board to disclose who knew about allegations involving Mark Brandt

Steven Meyer of Monroe County District 6 pressed the board to ensure the independent investigation on the agenda would answer whether county officials knew about Mark Brandt’s crimes and whether anyone assisted in covering them up.
Meyer said he attended a town hall where state representative Joe Bellino indicated people on the county board might have known about Brandt’s conduct; Meyer asked Bellino to name names and said Bellino refused. He contrasted Bellino’s prior sentencing letter — which described Brandt as remorseful and surprised the writer — with recent Whiteford Township ordinance citations alleging ongoing marijuana ordinance violations at a property connected to Brandt. “How many Monroe County government officials knew about Mark Brandt's crime and potentially were complicit in helping him cover that up,” Meyer asked the board during public comment.
Meyer asked that the independent investigator make public who else, besides Bellino, might be complicit and urged the investigator to be forthcoming. The board subsequently moved to waive privilege on phase 1 findings and to authorize limited disclosure to the attorney general, steps that could provide greater public access to the investigation’s findings.
