Mary Gantos, managing attorney for Monroe County Indigent Defense, submitted the request in a letter. Melanie Young, the county’s indigent defense coordinator, described the program and said staff are available to answer questions about the plan. When asked where matched funds would come from, county staff replied that the match is budgeted in the current year and would be built into the 2027 county budget process. “We budget for the match,” staff said, adding the state fiscal-year timing requires those budget adjustments.
The board approved the application on roll call. The application, if awarded, would fund local indigent defense services and require the county to provide the identified local match.
