Organizers of the Parker Square flea market told council the event has grown to 67 vendors and several hundred visitors and presented the city with a $500 donation to the general fund.
Meredith Parker said the market has become a local attraction over two years and thanked the city for administrative and public-safety support. "With 67 vendors, food trucks and several 100 visitors attending our most recent flea market, we believe the event has become a positive attraction for the City of Waterville," Parker said. She asked the city to consider modest infrastructure improvements at Parker Square — such as electrical outlets, improved internet access for vendor card readers, and shelter or shade for hot days — to enable the market and other weekend events to grow.
Council thanked the organizers and asked administration to follow up; Mayor Tim Pedro suggested the city and organizers coordinate by email so staff can identify the improvements that are already planned and which would require additional funding. The organizers said they hope future proceeds will support community charitable efforts and asked the city to consider how small investments in park infrastructure could facilitate more frequent events.
Council did not take a separate vote on park improvements at the meeting; staff were asked to review the suggestions and report back.
