Commission approves pipeline, crack-sealing and preservation contracts, plus small capital items

St. Clair County Commission approved multiple road and maintenance contracts (Price Road Boring $78,868; Remac $67,638; reclamite preservation project; and several smaller equipment and survey contracts) and authorized surplus/donation actions for highway plans and old vehicles.
County engineer Clay Phillips briefed the commission on ongoing and upcoming road works and asked for approval of routine highway maintenance and construction contracts.
The commission approved a Price Road Boring Incorporated proposal for a pipeline project on Cane Road (item amount $78,868) and a Remac Incorporated crack sealing project on Canyon Road 30 and Mountain View Road for $67,638. Commissioners also approved a preservation project (Reclamite) to extend pavement life on Canyon Road 42 and Channel Mountain Road; Clay said the preservative treatment would extend the surface life by approximately five years.
The board also authorized smaller capital items: replacement of awnings for the highway department building ($8,750 pending attorney review), an $850 boundary survey for a county lot at 392 5th Street in Asheville, and donating old highway construction plans to the local archives. Each of those items passed on motion and voice vote.
