Michael, the city—s finance presenter, told the budget workshop that "for the month of May ... our taxes were $300,643.86," and he noted year-to-date collections were up about $34,571.
Michael also flagged recent months of stronger receipts: "In June, we received $265,000" and "in the month of July, we received $339,990," which he said puts the city roughly $72,000 ahead of last year and about 4% growth. He described historical seasonality, noting the first six months typically produce about 43% of annual sales tax and the last six months 57%.
City officials asked for clarification on remittance timing during the exchange; Michael explained the mechanics of merchant collection, state remittance and the city—s receipt schedule, an issue that affects how monthly comparisons are read. He urged council to consider seasonal patterns as they review midyear projections.
