Castle Rock awards council community grants to three nonprofits

Staff presented the second-quarter Council Community Grant applications and explained recent policy changes to the program (total annual allocation, preference for Colorado or Castle Rock nonprofits, and ineligibility for routine youth sports unless the activity offers unique community benefits).
Three applicants were presented as eligible: Castle Country Assisted Living (asking for $1,000 for outdoor therapeutic-space improvements at Valley House), AgeWise Colorado (requesting $1,000 to increase Castle Rock users from 56 to 100 per month), and A Precious Child (a Colorado nonprofit that will serve more than 100 Castle Rock children through a resource-bridge program). Staff noted some applicants were referred to the Public Art Commission because they fell into that category.
Councilmember Brooks moved to award funding "as specified in the presentation;" Councilmember Dietz seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Councilmembers urged better outreach to increase applications and noted a preference for spreading grant information earlier in the calendar year.
Staff will finalize grant amounts and continue outreach to improve participation in future cycles.
