Committee member flags outstanding fire department maintenance, council arranges fixes

Richard Schwartzer, who reported on the Fire Department’s status, told the council that some items noted in a January report "have still not been checked or fixed," and that parts for the station siren are on site but not yet installed.
Schwartzer said he understood the city lacked a maintenance person and asked whether special skills were required to replace the siren parts. He said the electrician told the city the replacement was simple and that "all that's required is a screwdriver." Schwartzer also raised a busted hose that he said could not be reinstalled by City personnel.
City Manager Raamin Burrell said she had arranged a donated hose from Long Creek and acknowledged she "forgot to get the batteries ordered but will do so first thing in the morning." Burrell and Schwartzer set a time to replace the siren parts, and Burrell offered to install a new landline handset in the fire hall. Councilor Melissa Pettyjohn urged Schwartzer to assist with ordering parts and asked him to prioritize batteries so both engines would be available if needed.
The council did not formalize a budgetary action during the meeting for fire equipment replacement; the work was arranged operationally between the city manager and the volunteer firefighter.
