Seneca seeks additional state funds, adopts Resolution 06-18 to improve city roads

The Seneca City Council on July 10 authorized pursuing additional state grant funding for road improvements and adopted Resolution 06-18 to allocate special city allotment funds.
City Manager Raamin Burrell told council members that the Oregon Department of Transportation regional representative had confirmed municipalities may hold two SCA grants at once and that the grant cap had doubled to $100,000. "He suggested that we submit a proposal for all the roads which would prompt them to come and assess what the grant could cover," Burrell said. The council discussed targeting commercial-side segments of Highway 395, Dump Road, Shirttail Creek Road and Strawberry Lane.
Councilor Melissa Pettyjohn moved to adopt Resolution 06-18 and Councilor Barbara Northington seconded; Mayor Brad Smith said the motion passed unanimously and the resolution was signed. Councilor Matt Wenick noted the city could reduce costs by preparing roadbeds (bare dirt) before contractor work, potentially saving grading and graveling expenses.
Burrell said grants would be awarded by January 2019, and the council agreed to move forward with applications and local preparations.
