The UN relayed UNICEF reporting that at least 23 children were reportedly killed and 25 injured in North Kordofan in the two months since fighting intensified around El Obeid, spokesperson Farhan said.
Farhan said across Sudan children have borne the brunt of more than three years of conflict and repeated displacement, which damages civilian infrastructure and puts children's lives and futures at risk. He quoted UNICEF's call on all parties to protect civilians, including children, and to uphold obligations under international humanitarian law.
The briefing did not include new UN deployments or specific protective measures tied to the reported casualties.
