The UN told journalists that the situation in the occupied West Bank is rapidly deteriorating and that, unless immediate steps are taken, a wider escalation is increasingly likely, spokesperson Farhan said.
Farhan relayed deputy special coordinator Ramiz Al Akbarov's briefing to the Security Council, saying Al Akbarov warned the situation is "rapidly deteriorating" and that recent operations and settler attacks have displaced more than 30,000 people in Jenin, Tulkarm and Nur Shams. Farhan urged Israeli authorities to take "immediate and effective measures to prevent settler violence, protect Palestinian communities, and ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable."
Turning to Gaza, Farhan said some progress has been made in clearing solid waste and coordinating sanitation supplies, but that these steps are "highly insufficient in the face of the immense needs on the ground." He said restrictions and financial constraints are impeding the ability of local authorities and humanitarian organizations — including UNRWA — to help affected populations.
The spokesperson repeated a call for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to take immediate steps to restore calm and reduce tensions. No new operational timelines or specific measures were announced at the briefing.
