Fire Chief Jeremy Haddix reported that two department personnel were deployed to assist response efforts for Hurricane Helene down south over the prior weekend and that the department is still selling tickets for its “Ultimate Giveaway.” Donations for hurricane victims are being accepted at Vincent Memorial Church and Freedom Baptist Church, and Linda Griffith is accepting donations for a limited time at the Nutter Fort Post Office. The minutes also record that the Robert C. Byrd High School homecoming parade traveled through town on Oct. 2 and drew large crowds.
The written EMS report, provided to the council, listed operational figures: 32 emergency calls, 37 basic life support (BLS) transports and 3 advanced life support (ALS) transports as of the morning of the meeting. In the police report Councilor Charlene Louk requested an update on park signage and was notified that signage was in place.
