Residents press Nutter Fort council on speed bumps and missing turn signal at Buckhannon Pike

Traffic-calming measures and signage drew multiple public comments at the Sept. 10 Town of Nutter Fort council meeting. Resident Mike Curran, who said he serves on the traffic advisory committee, told the council that speed bumps "tear up vehicles" and said he had not been invited to the committee's most recent meeting.
Council members and staff responded that a speed bump is on Burton Avenue and that Thomas Street is planned for the next installation; they said Chief Godwin has final authority on placement and that signage around the park should be increased. "Chief Godwin has the final say as it is a matter of safety," the meeting record notes.
Curran also raised a concern about the intersection at Buckhannon Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue, saying there is no turning light where a turning lane exists and asking whether the issue can be rectified. Mayor Sam Maxson said he will contact the West Virginia Department of Highways (WV DOH) to seek more information on the turning lane and signal options.
Resident Shirley Sheets asked where other speed bumps are planned; Mayor Maxson told her Thomas Street will be the next location and that additional suggestions will be brought back to the traffic advisory committee. The council did not take formal action at this meeting but acknowledged the complaints and indicated follow-up with the traffic advisory committee and WV DOH.
