Tony Hansen, regional director with the University of Minnesota Extension, told commissioners that the Caughey family of Fort Ripley was selected as Crow Wing County's 2026 Farm Family of the Year for their multi-generation dairy operation and community involvement. "This year the Extension Committee selected the Caughey family of Fort Ripley as the 2026 Crow Wing County Farm Family of the Year," Hansen said.
Hansen described the operation as a third- and fourth-generation dairy that raises corn and alfalfa, uses automated milking stalls and involves multiple family members and community organizations including the National Holstein Association and Brainerd FFA. He said the family will be recognized at the Crow Wing County Fair on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Gardens.
Commissioners and attendees congratulated the family at the meeting; no formal board action was required beyond acknowledgment. The county plans to include the family in a future board meeting for additional recognition.
