The board approved a proposal for additional cleanup at Area 33 that includes perimeter cleanup, removal of dead trees and mulching. District Manager Chuck Adams presented the proposal requested by Ms. Vaughan and the board discussed the scope of work after a site visit. District Engineer Kurt Heath told the board there is "a natural wetland in the center of the area; on the western side there is some separate excavated retention area," and he recommended optional weed‑whacker cleanup of a dry retention slope even though it does not impede drainage.
On motion by Mr. Walsh and seconded by Mr. Putman, "with all in favor," the proposal for additional cleanup at 33, including the optional scope of work, was approved. Ms. Vaughan asked about mulch types and cost; Mr. Gatz said the wood chips are free and that additional mulching will occur in early spring. Mr. Gatz also agreed to inspect dwindling native grasses at Hole 2 and report back.
