Argent Boulevard set for multimodal redesign; public meetings tentatively scheduled in October

Consultants said Argent Boulevard is the top priority under the county’s transportation sales-tax program and described a multimodal redesign that could include a four- or five-lane divided roadway with landscaped medians, left-turn lanes and 10‑foot multiuse pathways on both sides.
"We're looking at a 4 lane divided section or a 5 lane section…Intersections will be improved, of course, and said multi use pathways on both sides," Jeff Buckalew, senior project manager for Infrastructure Consulting and Engineering, said. He noted three active signal projects (Shortcut Road, US 278 intersection and Sundance) and said the project team is advancing data collection and 30% design plans while coordinating with SCDOT.
Buckalew said the program has $12,000,000 from LCOG in the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) but that because federal funds are involved the project must complete a NEPA review before advancing to final design. He said tentative public meetings for both Argent Boulevard and the US 278 phases are planned for the first week of October at the Palmetto Electric facility, subject to SCDOT review.
