Salina commissioners accept Jerry Ivy’s resignation, appoint Davis as vice mayor and open 14‑day window for replacement applicants

The Salina City Commission on July 27 voted to accept Commissioner Jerry Ivy’s resignation, effective July 24, 2026, and to elect Commissioner Davis as the board’s vice mayor.

Mayor (chair) opened the meeting and, after a brief procedural report from staff on statutory vacancy timelines, commissioners moved to accept the resignation. The motion passed 4–0. "We would like to thank Mr. Ivy for his dedication to the community," a commissioner said during remarks expressing appreciation.

Staff told the commission state law and city code require the remaining commissioners to fill the vacancy within 60 days and described prior practice of soliciting expressions of interest (EOIs). Commissioners debated timing and settled on a shorter public window. The commission directed staff to prepare and publish an EOI form and require submissions within 14 days; the commission will select a replacement at its Aug. 24 meeting. "The expressions would be due within 14 days of today, and the commissioners would select a new commissioner on August 24," a commissioner stated while moving the motion.

The clerk said the EOI form will be posted on the city website and made available through the clerk’s office and social channels. The commission’s action instructs staff to collect applications and present them for consideration at the Aug. 24 meeting.

No formal vote was taken on filling the vice mayor slot because the commission immediately moved to elect Commissioner Davis to that role by unanimous vote. The commission’s published minutes will reflect both actions and the effective resignation date.
