Planning commission, supervisors to meet for joint land‑use work session; staff to post revised draft

On July 27 the Wythe County Planning Commission met with members of the Board of Supervisors for a joint Land Use Classification work session to refine mapping and ordinance language.
Deputy County Administrator Matt Hankins reviewed edits staff made at the commission’s direction and asked for further direction on unresolved items. Officials from both bodies provided guidance; Hankins said staff will make the recommended changes, post a revised draft ordinance and mapping to the county website and organize additional public input meetings at area high schools. "The Board has directed staff to host additional public input meetings at the area high schools," Hankins said.
The workshop focused on mapping classifications and the wording of land‑use categories rather than final votes. Staff will incorporate the board’s and commission’s directions into a new draft and return it to the website for public review ahead of subsequent meetings. Commissioners and supervisors did not adopt a final ordinance during the session; the process remains in the draft/review stage with further public outreach planned.
