Milton reports preliminary 2026–27 enrollment just under 3,400; open-enrollment activity up slightly

District staff presented an early snapshot of 2026–27 enrollment, saying the district is "looking at, just under, 3,400 students," a decline of a little over 60 from this time last year. The presenter cautioned the numbers are preliminary and that final counts will depend on the third-Friday count used for state aid.
The board heard a breakdown by building: the high school showed an increase of about 18 students, Northside was down roughly 50, and kindergarten enrollment remained lower than at the same point last year. On open enrollment, staff reported 94 new open-enrollment applications with 88 approved and 80 of those students currently enrolled; combined with 398 returning open-enrolled students the district projected 478 students seeking open enrollment at this stage. "We don't know exactly where the enrollment is until 3rd Friday count," the presenter said. The board noted staff will continue to monitor Skyward data and report updates at upcoming meetings.
