Board and Commission direct staff to revise Land Use Ordinance mapping and hold public input sessions

Wythe County staff were directed to revise the draft Land Use Ordinance mapping and to host more public outreach after the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors met in a joint work session on July 27.
Deputy County Administrator Matthew Hankins reviewed changes the Planning Commission previously requested and asked the group for guidance on outstanding items. Commissioners and supervisors provided direction on mapping and classification; Hankins said staff will make the recommended changes and post the revised ordinance and mapping on the county website. The Board also instructed staff to hold additional public input meetings at area high schools to solicit broader community feedback before the next ordinance milestone.
The work session continues the county’s multi-step review process; no final zoning designations or ordinance adoption occurred at the session, and staff will return the revised materials for further consideration.
