Deputy Director Jay Ingram reported the city and public-works staff met with a representative of Novi Softball about proposed facility improvements at the hockey park softball field, including a skinned infield, new batting cage, snack shack and dugouts. Ingram said the city has “verbally committed, a while ago, for $50,000” toward the effort and that Novi Softball is aiming to raise about $100,000 to complete the project.
Ingram told commissioners the group will submit plans to the city and that planning and public-works review will divide responsibilities across departments; the proposal will return to the commission because the commission has authority over field improvements. He said the project could move forward within the next 12 months if fundraising and plan approvals proceed on schedule.
