Heritage Pines board approves Premier Lakes algae-treatment contract, cites $3,200 annual savings

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors voted on Oct. 15 to approve a $19,200 proposal from Premier Lakes, Inc. for pond algae treatment, with the board recording the action "with all in favor." On a motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh, seconded by Supervisor Carol Vaughan, the measure passed unanimously.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented the proposal, noting it was received the night before and that the change would save the district about $3,200 per year compared with the existing SOLitude contract. Adams said he would "initiate the 30-day termination clause with SOLitude to end services on November 30, 2024 and Premier Lakes would commence service on December 1, 2024." Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude uses; Adams said the vendor applies "a copper-based product" and that any odor results from degasification of the algae and typically lasts a couple of days.
The board's decision followed Adams' presentation of the scope of services and a brief public exchange about vendor choice. The motion and vote were recorded in the minutes as "On MOTION by Mr. Walsh and seconded by Ms. Vaughan, with all in favor, the Premier Lakes, Inc. Proposal for Pond Algae Treatment, in the amount of $19,200, was approved." The minutes show Adams will contact SOLitude to implement the termination and arrange for the new contractor to begin service on Dec. 1, 2024.
