Police Chief Keldon Brown told the council the department saw sharp year-over-year increases in enforcement and activity in 2025. He cited 105 more arrests than 2024, 385 additional offenses charged, roughly 1,200 more citations covering 1,600 more violations, about 700 more total incidents, and 16 more DUIs. The department conducted approximately 2,000 additional traffic stops and recorded 29 more accidents than the prior year.
Chief Brown also said staffing is tight: one officer left for Saratoga Springs and another vacancy leaves the department down two officers. He said proactive measures such as weekly speed-trailer deployment—currently on 3300 North—and focused studies on Loader Road, Locust Avenue and 600 West are being used to reduce dangerous driving. He told the council that data collected includes times of day with high-end offenses and that staff will provide examples at the budget retreat.
The council asked staff to bring representative enforcement data to the upcoming budget retreat for further discussion.
