Elkhart County Parks Director Rhonda Deacare asked commissioners for permission to submit a $650,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to fund initial infrastructure for the future Breach Grove County Park.
Deacare said staff also plans to pursue a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County to supplement initial infrastructure work and expected to hear about the Community Foundation decision within a week or two. Commissioners approved both requests unanimously.
Deacare said the LWCF application will proceed through the state and then to the National Park Service if selected; the smaller Community Foundation request is intended to help with early infrastructure costs while larger grant processes proceed.
