City approves KDOT grant agreement to replace tornado‑damaged T‑hangars

Staff asked the commission to approve a Kansas Department of Transportation grant agreement so the city can accept state funding for a T‑hangar replacement project that rebuilds hangars destroyed by a tornado. "Under the agreement, KDOT will reimburse 50% of the participating costs up to a maximum of $333,700," Interim City Manager Quinde said, and staff presented a funding plan that combines FAA funds (about $940,000), the KDOT participation and a local share (about $292,000) toward a current estimated project cost of $1,650,000.
Quinde explained the project will be bid with a six‑place T‑hangar as the base bid and an eight‑place alternate bid; the grant application used the eight‑hangar estimate so the city can build the larger project if bids permit. The commission moved, seconded and approved the grant agreement by roll‑call vote; staff will return when bids are evaluated to authorize a construction contract and final scope.
