Attorney Christine Petersen told the council that HB 48 (2024) requires municipalities to adopt the State Wildland-Urban Interface code, and that Pleasant Grove's WUI map has been finalized. She presented Ordinance 2026-010 to specifically adopt the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code.
Petersen said adoption would "bring the City into compliance with State code, define responsibility for fighting wildfires in the WUI area, and provide for reimbursement for any City costs to fight wildfires in that area." The council approved the ordinance unanimously. Implementation will rely on maps and administrative procedures to identify properties in the WUI and clarify responsibility for fire suppression and cost recovery.
