Council approves Transportation Master Plan amendment to fund 700 South safety upgrades

Public Works Director Neal Winterton described the Transportation Master Plan amendment to designate the 700 South Industrial Corridor (Geneva Road to North County Boulevard) as regionally significant and to add specific projects: traffic signals at 700 S/800 W and 700 S/1300 W, railroad crossing upgrades, and Geneva Road widening and sidewalks. Winterton said regional designation allows the City to pursue Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG), Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Utah Transit Authority (UTA) funding and possible reimbursement if the City builds projects prior to grant awards.
Council member discussion focused on pedestrian safety near Spectrum Academy and increasing industrial traffic from new businesses. After a public hearing with no speakers, Mayor Jensen called for a vote. The Council approved Ordinance 2026‑012 unanimously and directed staff to proceed with funding applications and technical design work.
