Assistant superintendent presents McKinney-Vento and truancy update; board asks for comparative data

Assistant Superintendent Warren presented the McKinney-Vento and truancy report, explaining the definitions and showing building-level data compiled through the current school year (September to May). He said the district completes a comprehensive needs assessment annually and offered to provide comparative trend data for multiple years at the next reporting cycle.

Warren described truancy as unexcused absences and noted the data can change daily; he also emphasized coordination with McKinney-Vento liaisons to support homeless students and transportation arrangements. "Truancy essentially are unexcused absences that a student might have throughout the year," Warren said. Board members asked for midyear and year-end trend charts covering previous years so the board can discern increases or decreases over time.
