Switalski seeks 30-by-40 front-yard garage; board flags safety, drainage concerns

David Switalski asked the Jefferson Township Land Use Board for a variance to build a 30-foot by 40-foot, two-car detached garage in the front yard of his property, telling the board it is intended primarily for his classic car collection and storage. "I have a classic car habit, and would like to keep it in a garage," Switalski said, adding there will be no running water initially and he hopes to install electricity later.
Board members and engineers pressed for changes. Board Engineer Rusty Schommer recommended a smaller footprint set back from the road and sited to one side to allow emergency vehicles easier access. Councilwoman Senatore and Vice-Chairwoman Galfo expressed concern about retaining walls, tree removal, drainage into the lake, and where construction or plumbing trucks would be stored during work. The applicant agreed to consider a smaller garage and the board carried the application to the July 27, 2026 meeting to allow the applicant to submit revised plans and additional technical details.
