Director Diana D'amour reported that staff are finalizing fiscal-year close activities, reconciling accounts with the comptroller and submitting grant expenditure reports to the state.
She described preparations for the upcoming state per-capita aid grant application and said the department is working on a spend-down plan for a multi-year workforce development grant that originally came from federal funding through the state; "that funding ends the November 2027," she said.
D'amour announced the new epidemiologist, Taylor Choi, has joined the department and completed onboarding; staff plan to invite Choi to the September meeting to provide an epidemiology update and continue regular reporting.
The director also noted operational summer work including beach water quality monitoring and closures after high rainfall, and air-quality impacts from wildfire smoke. She asked members whether the August meeting could be canceled; members agreed to skip August and resume in September.
