Medfield library director: no formal book reconsideration requests in nearly 11 years; child checkout rules in place

When asked about book bans and challenges, Gardner said the public library has had no formal requests for reconsideration during her nearly 11 years in Medfield. "The public library in Medfield hasn't had a formal request for reconsideration since I've been in Medfield, which has been, almost 11 years," she said, but acknowledged informal complaints do occur and staff respond by explaining selection standards.
Gardner described the library’s policies for unaccompanied children: young children under about age 8 may not be left without an accompanying person, parents or guardians must sign for library cards and can choose to monitor or restrict their child's borrowing. She said staff will guide children to more age‑appropriate options when needed.
