Task force hears about Cortex Flow cameras, mobile unit and Beam Notes pilot

Representatives of Nevada's forensic nursing and child-advocacy programs described recent equipment purchases and a documentation pilot funded or supported through CJA activities.
Cynthia Milligan Lusk of the Nevada Institute of Forensic Nursing said the institute received two Cortex Flow cameras, one for its office and one for a mobile unit, and described their use in documenting injuries including strangulation cases. "CJA has now, purchased 2 of them for us," she said, explaining the camera's images can be used in court when handled correctly. Separately, a Clark County representative described a pilot program, "Beam Notes," to transcribe forensic interviews to support caseworkers and forensic interviewers.
Speakers emphasized that while enhanced imaging and transcription tools expand capacity, some states have faced evidentiary challenges around filtered images; the chair offered to provide follow-up education on the clinical and legal context for image use.
