Superintendent Jerrad Jeske told the board that state or program funding for transitional kindergarten (TK) has been reduced "by approximately 35 percent," and said the district may lose available TK slots unless only students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals are eligible to generate funding.
"Funding for TK has been reduced by approximately 35% so our total number of available slots may get eliminated or only those students who qualify for free and reduced will generate funding for the program," Jeske reported. He said the district expected to know more within two weeks. The board discussed questions and possible options but took no binding action at the March 25 meeting.
Parents and early-learning advocates who track TK access should expect further updates when funding details are finalized and the district determines which slots, if any, will be offered next year.
