District awarded $48,000 planning grant toward possible $6 million school modernization

The Liberty School District will begin preliminary planning for a possible modernization of its elementary and junior-high building after the district was awarded a $48,000 Small Modernization planning grant, Superintendent Jerrad Jeske reported to the board.
“This is an important first step toward potentially securing up to $6 million in funding to modernize our elementary/junior high building,” Jeske said. The grant is intended to fund planning work; the board did not vote on any construction contracts at the March 25 meeting. The update appeared as part of the Superintendent’s report to the board.
Board members did not take formal action on a construction timeline or financing at the meeting; Jeske’s report also noted related operational items including steady enrollment (575 students) and an extended bus depreciation schedule that changes asset replacement timing. Next steps would include planning activities funded by the grant and future board review of any proposed capital project or bond financing.
