Commissioners hear that Canyons workforce housing largely meets current obligations; Phase 2 under construction

Commissioners asked whether the Canyons’ on-site workforce housing—about 1,100 beds by county figures—has been sufficient as development has progressed. Tiffany (staff) told the commission the housing has performed well: the first phase met the required employee-housing obligations, maintains a high occupancy rate and is being used year-round to a greater degree than initially expected.
"They have a very high occupancy rate... Phase 2 of that employee housing was approved last year and is currently under construction," Tiffany said, noting Phase 2 will add inventory above what was required. Staff said some projects have limited parking tied to workforce housing use and that the county holds a long-term ground lease related to the site. Commissioners asked for additional data on commuting patterns and the annual Canyons report; staff said the annual report and ongoing traffic/transit data could be shared with the commission.
Staff did not have specific commuting counts for employees who still commute into the Canyons during peak season and offered to obtain those figures on request.
