Council members agreed to a Planning & Zoning hearing on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. to consider proposed changes to dwelling‑type definitions that would allow some modular homes without rezoning to R‑3. Staff said the intent is to address a current variance denial and avoid broader rezoning that could open the door to trailer homes under an R‑3 designation.
“Basically, all it’s doing is putting some language in there to identify and allow the modular builds,” a committee member said, adding that the units would still be required to meet building code for the neighborhood. The council expects Planning & Zoning to hold its normal meeting and then bring the ordinance back for a second reading if the amendment is recommended.
