Visual Arts Center to receive complimentary permits; students and volunteers to be tracked via QR codes

Derek Tokos said the Visual Arts Center (VAC) lots will remain part of the public parking supply but will move to a 3-hour, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. limit with a policy to allow VAC employees, volunteers and students to receive complimentary permits recorded by staff.
"For Bridal Arts Center and the UQN Arts volunteers, they received complimentary permits for the turnaround and for their lots," Tokos said, describing a process in which VAC would provide user information and city staff would program complimentary permits rather than allowing a public self‑service sign-up. He said students would be tracked with a QR code where appropriate and that staff would monitor volumes to assess how many complimentary passes are needed annually.
Tokos warned that the VAC lot requires ADA improvement and that making that lot accessible would likely require reconstruction at an estimated cost of about $100,000; he said that is the kind of project parking revenue would be programmed to address over multiple years.
