The City of Jerome Planning & Zoning Commission on April 14 approved a renewal and permanent status, limited to the current owner, for a Special Use Permit allowing automotive sales at 124 West Avenue E.
City Planner Ida Clark told the commission that Troy Rose originally received the permit in April 2016 and it had been renewed in 2018 and 2021; staff said the prior approvals limited display to up to 12 vehicles, prohibited mechanical work on site, and anticipated roughly 20 hours per week of on‑site oversight. Applicant Justin Rose said the application remains the same and confirmed "they did have an office in the back," and asked whether the permit could be issued for 10 years.
Commissioner Paul Johnson moved to approve the renewal with conditions: vehicles must be parked on private property (not the public right of way); a fire inspection must be completed; a maximum of 12 vehicles may be for sale at any given time; the business must comply with all city, state, and federal requirements; and the Special Use Permit shall be permanent while held by the current owner. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously (Schroeder, Fraser, Johnson AYE). The commission also noted staff will require the fire inspection before finalization.
