Council initiates renaming of Agate Beach neighborhood park and dog run

Mike Kavanaugh, parks and recreation director, asked the council to begin the formal process to rename the Agate Beach Neighborhood Park to North Agate Beach Park and to designate the dog run as St. Bernard's Dog Run in memory of a former parks supervisor, Scott Bernards. Kavanaugh said the change is intended to reduce confusion among several similarly named locations (Agate Beach Park, Agate Beach Wayside Park, Agate Beach neighborhood references) and to align signage and web language.
Council reviewed the draft resolution and asked for the resolution number; staff provided the resolution identifier and the council voted to adopt the initiating resolution to start the renaming process. Kavanaugh said costs would be limited to signage and web updates and that he would return to the council to schedule a public hearing if needed.
