Mitch Berliner, who identified himself during the council recognition, argued that farmers markets have large economic impacts. "There are millions and millions and millions of dollars of sales that happen at farmers markets," he said, and added that markets help small producers find customers and, in some cases, grow into nationally sold brands.
Debbie Moser, co-founder of Central Farm Markets, said market operators partner with organizations such as Manna to feed residents and emphasized the market’s role in the county food system. She also noted safety concerns that rose during the COVID period and are being seen again, and urged attention to vendor and patron safety.
Organizers framed markets as both economic engines and community gathering places — a place to buy fresh products and to meet neighbors — and cited local success stories of vendors who began at markets and expanded regionally.
