County recreation staff presented a proposal for a long-term lease to convert space in the Royal Pines subdivision on Ladies Island into pickleball courts, describing the site as a gap in county recreational offerings for that part of the island. "Approximately the cost is about $450,000 to refurbish this area," the presenter said, and staff recommended the project if funding becomes available.
Councilors noted the property owner was present and encouraged staff to pursue funding options and discuss the site privately with the owner. Staff said the county has been proactive in planning pickleball facilities countywide and that this site could help expand access where there are no existing courts. There was no motion or vote; the item was discussed for future funding consideration.
